Member Spotlight: Paige Drew

Paige Drew is a Social Media Intern at NAMLE

What do you do?

I am NAMLE’s social media intern. I run NAMLE’s TikTok account, making video content with the goal of creating awareness around media literacy and expanding our audience to younger people.

What is your latest work or project in media literacy?

I just started interning for NAMLE this month! So far, I have been learning about the company, researching ideas for TikTok content, and educating myself on media literacy so that I can create the best content possible. I am so thankful for this opportunity to learn, grow, and gain experience in this field. Everyone at NAMLE has been a joy to work with and so welcoming to me!

Why is media literacy important to you?

I have grown up in a generation where everyone has access to social media and the internet at an extremely young and impressionable age. It has been confusing for me to navigate so many opinions and false claims online. I felt confused about what I believed because of the overwhelming number of voices online. Media literacy has benefited me so much in my life because I am now equipped with tools and strategies to differentiate between what is true and false and to not compare myself to the people I see online.

What are you most excited about in the media literacy field?

I am most excited to see media literacy become a part of young people’s lives as they become more educated on the topic. One goal I have running the TikTok account is to reach as many people as possible who have never heard of media literacy before, so that they can start to implement the tools into their daily lives. I am also really looking forward to NAMLE’s annual conference in July. I feel so lucky to be able to participate in the program and learn so much through the discussions that will take place.

Why did you become a NAMLE member, what benefits do you see to membership, and how will it support your work?

I became a NAMLE member because of the valuable resources you receive and the fact that it’s free! As a third-year Public Relations major, I hope to build a career in the communications field. Being a NAMLE member has given me resources to reach this goal of mine and connections to people who are just as passionate about media literacy and excited for the future of media as I am!
