Emily is a doctoral student in the Communication & Education program at Teachers College at Columbia University and a curricular content consultant for The Media Spot, LLC. She holds a masters degree in Education, Culture & Society from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. Her research interests and professional experiences reside mainly in the fields of multimodal storytelling, critical and antiracist pedagogies, and media literacy education.

Emily’s research and work is focused mostly on young people specifically around their identities (how they think about themselves and others), their relationships to popular culture, their roles as media creators/producers and consumers. Emily is an educator committed to social justice work and is passionate about working alongside young people while simultaneously facilitating spaces and opportunities for young people to tell their stories and share their experiences through multimodal media compositions (e.g., digital stories, spoken word poetry, collage, music, still and moving images, etc.).
