The mission of the Maine Film Center is to enrich, entertain and educate the community through film & art. In 1998, in partnership with Railroad Square Cinema, the Maine Film Center founded the annual Maine International Film Festival (MIFF), which has continued to grow in admission, attendees, and reputation each year. In December of 2012, Maine Film Center took a giant step forward in pursuit of its mission by purchasing Railroad Square Cinema, thereby ensuring a permanent home for MIFF and greatly expanding the opportunities for additional year-round film and arts programming. Maine Film Center actively collaborates with other community film and arts entities, including Colby College Cinema Studies, the Colby College Museum of Art, the Waterville Opera House, Common Street Arts and the Waterville Public Library.
