The Board Of Cooperative Educational Services of St. Lawrence-Lewis Counties (The SLL BOCES) serves 18 school districts in St. Lawrence and Lewis Counties, New York, by providing cost-effective shared services, including career training for high-school students and adults, special education, alternative schools, technology education, and teacher training, as well as dozens of programs to expand educational opportunity and help districts operate more efficiently. Our agency, which was created in the early 1950s, is one of 37 BOCES in NY state. All of The BOCES are made possible by legislation passed in 1948.
St. Lawrence-Lewis School Library System provides professional development opportunities to school librarians and other school library staff on an on-going basis. Working from a Three-Year Plan of Staff Development, the School Library System Director and Staff Development Committee design, develop, and hold several professional development programs every year.
Annually, the SLS provides system-wide training in the use of OPALS Library Automation software. Also, two Book Review Sessions are held each year, one for the fall review program and one for the spring.
In addition to this programming, professional development is offered according to the four strands of the Three-Year Plan:
- Information Power/Learning Standards
- Library Automation/Technology
- Local History
