What’s NAMLE been up to this year?
- Submitted official comment on the Common Core Standards.
- Early planning for the 2011 conference. Location, date & theme selected. July 21-25, 2011. Sheraton Society Hill, Philadelphia, PA. “Global vision/Local connections: Voices in Media Literacy Education”
- Submitted official comment to the Federal Communications Commission on two “notice of inquiries”: the first on “Net Neutrality” and the second on “Empowering Children”.
- NAMLE President Sherri Hope Culver and founding board member, Renee Hobbs, met with FCC Commissioner Clyburn to discuss the impact of media literacy on the FCC’s new broadband plan.
- Updating and revamping our member database to an online system. New system will allow members to create a profile and connect more easily with other NAMLE members.
- Second edition of NAMLE’s Journal of Media Literacy Education just released.
- Added new member benefit with School Library Journal
- Submitted paper and information to the new International Media Literacy Research Forum, of which NAMLE is a founding member.
- Started strategic initiative to increase connectivity among NAMLE members by beginning efforts to revamp website.
- Started “Marketplace” revamp allowing NAMLE to incorporate resources through Amazon and highlight vast amounts of media literacy content.
These efforts connect directly to NAMLE’s Strategic Goals.
