NAMLE Named in Knight & Aspen Reports

Digital and Media Literacy, A Plan of Action; A White Paper (PDF)
NAMLE was recently noted in two documents from The Aspen Institute and the Knight Foundation. Both of these organizations endeavor to bring awareness of the importance of media literacy education to broader audiences, and both have noted NAMLE as an actor in this effort.
The Knight Commission Report on the Information Needs of Communities stated a need to “integrate digital and media literacy as critical elements for education at all levels through collaboration…” The NAMLE 2011 Conference takes that recommendation and moves it into action by offering over 150 workshops, demonstrations, and presentations designed to inspire educators to strengthen the capacity of their students to engage with information. The Modern Media Makers workshop integrates youth voices and their on-site creative productions into the conference.
In the Aspen Institute white paper, Digital and Media Literacy: A Plan for Action, NAMLE is highlighted several times for its leadership in developing core principles for media literacy education.
We look forward to seeing you in Philadelphia this July 22-25. Keynote speakers at the Conference include Douglas Rushkoff, noted scholar and author of the book, “Programmed or Be Programmed” and Mohammed Bilal, Executive Producer of Media for One Economy Corporation.
If you haven’t yet, register for the Conference here.
