Rushkoff & Bilal to Keynote

Hip-hop artist and diversity advocate Mohammed Bilal and digital culture guru Douglas Rushkoff will each deliver keynote addresses at the NAMLE 2011 Conference in Philadelphia this July. Register for the Conference here.

Mohammed Bilal is probably best known as the voice of reason on MTV’s Real World San Francisco. He is also an accomplished diversity consultant, a hip-hop writer, and an award-winning producer of both music and film. As facilitator of over 400 diversity presentations and workshops worldwide – with clients that include Lucent Technologies, Progressive, Boston College, and the US Treasury – Mohammed has positioned himself as one of today’s top diversity consultants. His 12 Steps Toward Appreciating Diversity lecturer has equipped thousands of people with concrete, everyday tools for living a vibrant, compassionate life. As an award-winning hip-hop artist, Mohammed has collaborated and/or performed with such luminaries as Santana, Mos Def, The Ohio Players, Public Enemy, Ben Harper, De La Sou, Micheal Franti, and Primus. Currently, Mohammed is Executive Producer of Media for the Public Internet Channel (pic.tv), a site that uses art and media to improve the lives of low-income Americans.

Winner of the first Neil Postman award for Career Achievement in Public Intellectual Activity, Douglas Rushkoff is an author, teacher, and documentarian who focuses on the ways people, cultures, and institutions create, share, and influence each other’s values. He teaches media studies at NYU and the New School University, serves as technology columnist for The Daily Beast, and lectures around the world. Among his ten best-selling books on media and culture is Program or Be Programmed: Ten Commands for a Digital Age. His Frontline documentary Digital Nation was his third to be carried on PBS. He has written for Arthur, The New York Times, Time and The Guardian. He serves on the boards of several new media nonprofits. He holds degrees in film direction and is a PhD candidate at Utrecht University.
