The Board Room, August 2010

[ 0 ] August 22, 2010 |

What has your Board of Directors been up to this summer?

  • We launched a totally revamped website on NAMLE.net!  Special thanks to Rhys Daunic.  We will be officially promoting that launch in September to the extended media literacy community.
  • We launched an updated Marketplace for media literacy resources, now connected to Amazon.com and integrated into the new website.  Kudos to Vanessa Domine.
  • We kicked off the summer with a 3-day board retreat in Philadelphia to plan the organization’s goals for the coming year, begin action steps on several committee initiatives, meet face-to-face with fellow board members, and personally experience the location & hotel for next summer’s conference to assure a fantastic event.
  • We completed the NAMLE Strategic Plan for 2010-2011 during our annual board retreat.  Your can read it on our website.
  • We welcomed Alison Stuart as the new Local Conference Committee Chair in Philadelphia.  Alison is an elementary school teacher and committed media literacy practitioner.
  • We presented at numerous conferences, including a presentation on “Media Literacy in the USA” at the World Summit on Media for Children in Sweden.  Congratulations Sherri Hope Culver.
  • We were asked to serve as a member of the Advisory Committee for the global initiative, “Net Generation of Youth”.  This global exchange links schools in the US to schools in Africa with media literacy included as a curriculum component.
